From the Buddhist point of view, harmony can be regarded as the highest realm. A Buddha is in the realm of harmony, so called ‘nirvana and stillness’. So, the Buddha stipulates all monastic order to follow the Six Harmonious Respects. If there has no harmony, it cannot be said to be a monastic order, because it will bring the order, as well as others, vexations. A monastic order like that cannot be harmonious and cannot be stable.

以佛教來說,可以說「和」是最高的境界,佛就是「和」的境界,所謂「涅槃寂靜」。所以佛陀規定僧眾要「六和敬」,如果沒有「和」的話就不能稱為僧團,因為會給自己帶來苦惱,也會給他人帶來苦惱,這樣僧團就不能和合不能穩定。
