Let’s look at No Stealing. Taking what is not given: taking things you shouldn’t take, spending money that is not yours, or using something that you have not been given permission to use, are all regarded as stealing. Whether the action is as small as taking a needle and thread, or as great as taking another’s money, these are all forms of stealing. If we use the mirror of the Five Precepts to examine our own speech and conduct, we know we easily commit offenses. The Earth Store Sutra says, “For sentient beings in the Jambudvipa, their actions and their thoughts are nothing but karmic offenses.”
不偷盜,就是不取不應該取的,甚至花費超過自己本份應得的東西,也算是偷盜;甚至在公司裏用公司的郵票、信封、信紙啦,也算是偷盜;別人或公家的物品,小如針線、大如鈔票,擅自拿取,也算是偷盜的範圍。我們用五戒的鏡子來照照自己的言行,就知道很容易犯。《地藏經》說:閻浮眾生,舉止動念,無不是業,無不是罪。
