Master Huijing’s Short Teachings about Faith in Pure Land Buddhism

Amitabha’s Name is called “the great Name of ten thousand virtues.” Actually, the Chinese word “Wan” (ten thousand) is not a numerical number. It means “all-sufficient, perfect, transcendental, and complete.”
That is to say, the merits and virtues contained in Amitabha’s Name are all that is required to: transcend reincarnation within the Six Realms and all of the Bodhisattva stages, achieve rebirth in the Land of Bliss, and expedite our achievement of Buddhahood.
這句名號叫做「萬德洪名」。萬德洪名的「萬」不是數目字的百千萬的萬，而 是「具足、完滿、超越」的意思。
也就是往生成佛的功德，在這句名號中完全 圓滿、完全具足，而且使我們超越六道輪迴，一旦到極樂世界就能夠超越三賢 十聖而快速成佛。
