A quote from Master Shandao’s “Chapter on the Profound Meaning of the Commentary on the Contemplation Sutra”:
善導大師語錄
The Contemplation Sutra, however, was given by the Buddha for ordinary beings. It was not meant for sacred beings.
《觀經疏》〈玄義分〉:
但此《觀經》,佛為凡說,不干聖也。
