The merits needed for rebirth lie in the magnificent power of Amitabha’s Fundamental Vow and not on those of flawed ordinary beings. Thus, whether they are of virtuous or non-virtuous aptitudes, whether they know about the teaching in the present life or near the end-of-life, all can be reborn through Amitabha-recitation.
往生之功在彌陀巍巍的本願力,不在濁惡不善的凡夫身;故不問善機惡機、平生臨終,但念佛名皆得往生。
