However, when referring to this 4-sentence verse alone, we cannot understand how we can attain the status of non-retrogression while still living in the Land of Saha in our physical body. However, later on, there is a text that explains more clearly:
If a bodhisattva wishes to reach a state of Aviniartaniya (non- retrogression) while in this body, and accomplish the highest perfect Enlightenment, he should recite the Name of all Buddhas of the ten directions.
There is another verse saying, “If a person can remember this Buddha, he will attain immeasurable merit, power and virtues, and instantly enter the state of assurance (non-retrogression). That is why I always recite.” It also directly points out that Name-recitation in accordance with the Fundamental Vow is “entering the state of non-retrogression (assurance)”. Thus, there is no need to wait for rebirth.
不過單從這四句偈,當然看不出肉體還在娑婆世界就已經獲得不退轉地身份的意涵,下面還有一段文:「若菩薩欲於此身得至阿惟越致地,成就阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,應當念是,十方諸佛,稱其名號」,這又講得更明確了。
而另一首偈:「人能念是佛,無量力功德,即時入必定,是故我常念」,也直接點出本願稱名是「即時入必定」,不必等到往生之後。
