Subsequent to believing and accepting name-recitation, we merely recite Amitabha’s name “even ten times,” for those who come across the teaching near the end-of-life. Those who come across this teaching earlier in the present life, should recite for the remainder of this life. Thus, we are regarded as being on board the ship of Amitabha’s vow.
Though we haven’t cut off our greed, hatred, and delusion, nor changed our habitual behavior, heavy afflictions and boundless false thoughts; if we exclusively recite Amitabha’s name for the remainder of this life, we will continue aboard the ship of the vow until we are delivered to the Pure Land. As long as we continue to aspire for rebirth and entrust in Amitabha, we will never fall back into the Six Realms of the sea of suffering.
At the end of this life, we will naturally arrive at that shore. Through understanding and believing in these truths, Pure Land teaching provides all Pure Land practitioners with comfort and hope.
我們只要「乃至十念」(平生之機,上盡一形;臨終之機,下至十聲)地信受稱名,就已經在願船上了。
即使貪瞋癡還沒斷,習氣還沒改,煩惱重重,雜想妄念無邊,只要不離開願船,對彌陀救度信心不失,對往生極樂願心不退,一生專稱彌陀佛名,就不會再度落入六道苦海了。
今生壽命方盡,自自然然地就已在彼岸了。所以,淨土法門給了所有修行者無限的安慰,也給了我們最後的希望。
